Live Brief: Creating a dynamic and interesting multi-platform record label branding, for a new record label in the Bristol/Bath area.
The branding/promotional design work for a new start-up record label. This would involve Instagram, logo-design, and potentially vinyl labels and sticker designs. Could do this a live brief.
Outcome: Branding and social media promotional work for up-start - Resonance Record Label
OLD
NEW
The original brief wasn't clear in its proposal of what the question was. Here I have re-worded the brief description to read more clearly and present the challenge of branding the identity of Resonance Label while coinciding with an Instagram promoting Resonance.
Time Management
Correspondance
Moodboard
Some key features of Resonance as a theory presented here to gage the aesthetic.
Logo Designs
Colours aren't too relevant as I haven't decided on the general aesthetic I want to thread throughout any Resonance related media, just experimenting with the form of the R, which may be used as the logo, or potentially the whole word. With the Resonance referencing the increase in amplitude, I will want to present this in the logo and through further designs published through Resonance, this could simply be through creating a simple motion blur to present movement/reverb within the logo. Will need to think on this further.
Final Logo
(collab piece with Joe John Martin [illustrator])
Finalizing the logo design, the developed idea presented before of the snail smoking with the resonance label name was chosen as the logo design, but we (me & client) wanted a more refined and cartoon-like drawing so we contacted an illustrator Joe John Martin, who took this design and came out with these outcomes.
The client was happy with the form of the sketch for the smoking snail logo but wasn't too convinced on the colouring. I then directed them to a colour palette selection website where they were able to select the palettes they like the best and I then re-coloured the illustration to their liking.

Posters
Simple posters to help me gauge if a toned down visual would be appropriate for a techno/house label. I liked the look of these posters but will don't want the aesthetic to be too toned down as it can come across as slightly underwhelming, and we need especially the initial content to stand out from other labels; this can also be achieved just though the quality of the form of the designs though. Will need to continue experimenting with the general aesthetic.
4 SETS OF 3 POSTERS
Presenting key information about the record label such as location and social media tag. These posters aim to instantly provide necessary info so passers-by can find out all they need through a glance at the posters. R referencing name of the record label.
Record Mock-Ups
Couple record mockups, again experimenting with how vibrant the designs could be without feeling overcrowded and being clearly legible. The bottom two are my favourite, I feel that the contrast of the very vibrant aesthetic in the 2nd vinyl cover here could be complimentary to the toned-down colours and textures used in the 3rd vinyl.
Animated
Experimenting with logos, creating some gifs that could be used on social media pages for Resonance Record Label.
Final mockup
Website
Initial Wireframe
Simple mock-up of the website for Rohan Resonance Records; in a layout comparable to a portfolio, with the aim of elongated tiles to present relevant imagery clearly.
In further developments of the website layout, these tiles will be occupied by imagery relevant to promotional pieces for the label, i.e. wherein this mockup, promotional posters of events that artists from the label are playing at (basement 45 event & Crofters Rights event) are shown as seen on screen - when the user scroll over the tile, it will become slightly shaded / reduce in opacity to reveal a short description on what the tile is presenting i.e. 'Basement 45 Event - Bristol'. If the user then clicks on this tile they will be taken to another page which describes the event in more detail i.e. artists playing, event time, location and the type of music being played that night, and if possible presenting photos from the night.
These changes in the Ui design will also be accompanied with similar faded effects when scrolling over the navigation bar and with a more engaging header to the website, which will help to establish a stronger sense of hierarchy to the page.
Instead of tiles presented vertically, they could be presented in a horizontal format that accommodates a scroll action; an infinite scroll could be used here, similar to that seen in Instagram, the horizontal scroll will add depth to the page as the user will be able to scroll down the page while also being able to move between content across the screen.
Here, an example from graphic designer/illustrator Kris Andrew Small, of how the website could present the transition from the home screen tiles to the more descriptive pages showing the relevant content in more detail.

DEVELOPED
Developed wireframe
Sketch landing page with logo and enter button. then the home/navigation page. The layout here slightly differs here to the digitally adapted mockup, with the 3x3 navigation tile layout being a 2x2 layout to create a more symmetrical design layout.
Website development presenting all the content of Resonance Records (artists profile, events, store, playlists).
Development - Will need to work on the micro animations and navigation in developments as the website aesthetically feels unified but the navigation is a bit jolted and snappy.
The final mockup of the website. Still, some type to come as waiting on the client to provide some script for their profile page.
This final mockup has more content with the events page having relevant text on it describing some of the events that one of the artists has played at. The micro animations are more detailed now and more frequent to help make the website flow more smoothly as the user navigates through it, i.e. slide animations when using macro buttons to flip between pages. these presents a more encompassing/whole feel to the website instead of previous animations where the pages would simple cut to one another.
The headers and footers are unified in their layout across the site, which allows for easier navigation of the website.
The website will be developed in the future but for the time, this layout will work as a good bases for the site.

Initial Design
Instagram layout covering 3x3 tiles
The description (text) has been limited to one Instagram tile out of the 9 so the placement of it on the composition is a bit limiting. will have to think about how it can be positioned more interestingly in developments. maybe separate between the 3 middle tiles.
Design split across 9 tiles, the light blue guide lines show where the images will be placed on the instagram profile page.
Developed
3x1 Tile layout
Scrapping the initial 3x3 tile instagram layout the page will ow start with a refined 3x1 layout, with image bleed creating a cohesive design. Further posts above these initial 3 posts will follow similar if not the same format. With further posts presenting other artists on the label and upcoming mixes and/or merchandise drops. This initial set of 3 will be presenting the co-founder and artists 'Hashram'; the middle tile will present a quick bio on the artist, with the tile to the left promoting a mix he has uploaded to the Rohan Resonance Records soundcloud; and the tile to the right presenting the logo.
Multi Tile Designs (initial)
Soundcloud
Banner
Here's an example of an artists Soundcloud profile page. the banner designs above would occupy the wide row behind the artists display photo as seen below.
The display photo for the page would be the snail logo.
Poster Design for Resonance artists' event
Poster mockups for 2 events that artists from Resonance will be playing in the upcoming months. Corresponding with Sweet Dreams record label to design a poster that matches their preferred toned-down aesthetic seen in most of their event posters and social media pages.
EDIT: BOTH EVENTS CANCELLED DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS.
Initial Designs (event posters)
Developed ideas
Integrated six was nine logo into the event promotional poster design as to add context to it, along with a rang of new background iterations that compliment the range of bold typefaces used (some edited on illustrator as to add unique character) - all fitting to the clients' specification of the general aesthetic they looking for in their brand identity.
