Mental Health Awareness within Sport brief

OLD

NEW

The old brief description didn't make it clear what the outcome should be, so I have explained that this needs to be a platform to promote mental health within sports.

With a growing amount of professional athletes (especially male athletes recently) opening up and telling the world of their mental health issues, whether that be from childhood trauma to anxieties caused through their growing fame/stardom.

The fact that they are coming out in public (social media mostly) and addressing these significant personal traumas in what could be considered a very ego-driven, conceited 'industry' were 'toxic masculinity' is prevalent making it almost taboo to open up in such a way in the past.

The point being, that this openness gives young athletes who may be going through the same situation a role model/mentor who they can relate to, to inspire them to not think they are the anomaly, the odd one out, or somehow weaker than their counterparts in their sporting field.

Outcome: Blog presenting relevant stories (good + bad?), self-help guides, helplines

Since opening up about his anxieties in the past years competing at the highest level of basketball, one of the biggest stars from the NBA, Kevin Love has continued to provide a platform for athletes to do the same; as well as setting up mental health foundations for athletes.
